KWF, the German Centre for Forest Work and Technology, provides solutions for technical and scientific problems of German forestry.
KWF offers the following services:

  • Improvement of forest technique and working conditions with special respect to operating efficiency, safety, health and environmental sustainability
  • Decision support for forest owners and forest entrepreneurs
  • Mediation between researchers, manufacturers, forest owners and forest entrepreneurs
  • Solutions for problems of major interest in forest operation and forest engineering

Testing of forest machinery is an important mission of KWF. Forest machines, tools and equipment are tested as to functionality, performance, operational safety and environmental impact. Further objects tested are professional forest clothing, personal protective equipment and mobile staff trailers for forest workers.

By testing machines and equipment thoroughly manufacturers are helped in their research and development activities as a third body reviews the equipment technically and under real working conditions in the forest. Manufacturers and users will know that work safety has been assessed. The successfully passed KWF-test is approved by the KWF seal which may be found on the machine.

Furthermore KWF is present in standardization bodies in order to help to advance safety and construction standards. Here we are co-operating with relevant national and international bodies.

Extension work is done by offering our test results in the internet (http://www.kwf-online.de/deutsch/index.htm), by training to forest workers, forest owners and entrepreneurs and by the KWF summit taking place every 4 years which serves as a showcase for the state of the art in forest engineering. KWF summit offers a Forest Machinery and Innovation Demo Fair, infield demonstrations and scientific conferences. Further information may gained from our monthly journal Forsttechnische Informationen which is available in the internet (http://www.kwf-online.de/deutsch/archiv/fti/index.htm) too. All this information is sent free to members in printed form. Membership is open to all who are interested in forest engineering and forest work.
